The challenge

An auction house's process has a lot of moving parts: items need to be submitted and catalogued, bid on, sold, and paid out — and beforehand, this ran across separate tools and paperwork instead of one system.

The house runs three kinds of auctions — online, in-room, and hybrid — and in a hybrid auction, bidders in the room and bidders online need to compete on exactly the same terms, in real time, with neither side at a disadvantage.

Bidding also had to be fully usable on mobile, for two different audiences: buyers tracking and bidding on lots from their phone, and staff photographing and logging submitted jewelry from theirs — plus contracts, receipts, invoicing and payment needed to happen without manual paperwork piling up after every auction, in a three-language (Hungarian, English, German) interface for an international buyer base.

The solution

01

One system, start to finish

Item submission, cataloguing, bidding, sale and payout run in a single platform, instead of switching between separate tools at each stage of an auction.

02

Three auction formats, one rulebook

Online, in-room and hybrid auctions all run on the same bidding logic, so in-room and online bidders compete in real time under identical rules.

03

Fully mobile, for buyers and staff alike

Buyers can follow and bid on lots straight from their phone, and staff can take in and photograph submitted jewelry the same way, without needing a desk or a desktop.

04

Automated paperwork and payments

Contracts and receipts are generated automatically, and invoicing and payment run as part of the same flow — cutting the admin that used to pile up after every auction.
